Rewards for Healthy Living
One of the greatest public health challenges confronting Australia and many other industrialised countries is the obesity epidemic.
There is no simple solution or singular approach, but as the Australian Government moves to implement the National Preventative Health Agenda, Fitness Australia is aware of the important role fitness services will assume in helping to increase physical activity participation across the Australia community and the significant impact this could potentially have on population health and the economy.

Navigating the Private Health Fund Landscape
Australia's health system is considered to be one of the best in the world. But with the ageing population, increasing cost of caring for more people with chronic conditions and continuing medical improvements, the demands on our health system continue to rise.
Many private health funds reward members who are engaging in services that will help them to achieve ongoing good health or prevent a hospital admission, by paying for services that keep them well (e.g. extras such as dental, optical physiotherapy, alternative therapies, massage & fitness services such as gym membership.
Which Funds Offer Rebates for Fitness Services
Currently, there are twenty Australian private health funds that offer rebates for fitness services. You can find out which funds offer rebates for fitness services at www.fitness.org.au. Staying informed about private health fund rebates that are available for fitness services will allow fitness professionals and businesses to give their clients and members the best oppurtunity for affordable health & fitness.

'Like many people nowadays, I was overweight and agreed wit my doctor that losing weight would be beneficial to my overall health. As a private health fund member I was aware that rebates for weight loss programs, gym membership, etc were available. When I contacted my health fund to get more information as to what I could claim for, I was advised that any services had to be provided by a member of Fitness Australia for them to recognise my claim. As such, while there were two gyms closer to my home, and both offering cheaper options, I elected to join a Fitness Australia registered gym, even though it was further away and slightly more expensive, as the total cost to me once the health fund rebates were included workedout to be less.' - Glen
