What is Yoga?

Yoga is a physical activity that uses an awareness of the breath to link, unify and balance the many aspects of the body and mind, allowing them to operate as one functional unit.

The YOGA type we teach at Blackwood Fitness is called "HATHA YOGA"

What will it do for me ?

Yoga is known for its ability to heal and bring peace of mind.

How hard is it?

Low- high

Yoga is suitable for most of our members.  Options are always offered which make our classes achievable for all fitness levels.

What is a typical Yoga class like?

These are the main components of Hatha Yoga:

1. Stretching

2.  Isometric strengthening

3. Isotonic strengthening

4.  Isokinetic strengthening

5.  Joint range of movement exercises

6.  One-legged (balance) exercises

7.  Cardiovascular (aerobic) conditioning

8.  Breathing awareness

9.  Unilateral nostril breathing

10.  Sense control

11.  Concentration

12. Relaxation

14.  Meditation

What do I need to bring?

Bring a water bottle and a towel or yoga mat. Wear comfortable clothes.  The class is carried out without shoes.

How often should I do Yoga?

You should do Yoga as often as you can.  It is a great class to compliment the rest of your gym classes.
