Weight loss
Get in shape for summer or for that special occasion. Specific programs for weight loss to achieve the strong, healthy physique that you want.
Weight Loss Personal Training Packs
- Women will not bulk up if they train with weights. Both men and women get significant benefits from strength/weight training.
- Muscle cannot turn to fat and fat cannot turn to muscle. Sometimes when we stop training we gain weight through inactivity. Weight training boosts the metabolism and helps with fat loss.
- You cannot spot reduce fat but when you train efficiently you will lose fat which is the most important thing!
- You must eat properly even when you are exercising. Your body must have nutrients to function at its peak.
Strength Training
For those wanting to discover the benefits of weight training. Get strong - gain muscle - and lose fat.
Tips for strength training:
- Always exercise the largest muscle groups first, such as your hips and upper legs, then move to your lower legs, upper torso, arms, abdominals and lower back.
- The abdominals and back muscles are stabilising muscles which help you to maintain correct form and should be exercised at the end of the session so that they are not fatigued too early.
- When lifting a weight, breathe continuously throughout the movement – don’t hold your breath or your blood pressure may go up.
- When lifting a weight, control the movement: take 2 seconds for the lifting movement, pause for one second, then 4 seconds for the lowering movement.
- Concentrate on maintaining good form – use a mirror to see that your body is aligned correctly.
- Limit strength training sessions to one hour in length – no more.
- Don’t do strength training sessions on consecutive days unless you work different muscle groups in each session, e.g. arms on Monday; legs on Tuesday
Flexibility/Stability
Reduce muscle soreness and stiffness with flexibility training. Improve your overall fitness and see the benefits of being flexible. Be strong and stable with specific programs for stability and postural awareness.
The Benefits of Flexibility Training
- By increasing this joint range of motion, performance may be enhanced and the risk of injury reducede. The rationale for this is that a limb can move further before an injury occurs.
- Tight neck muscles for example, may restrict how far you can turn your head. If, during a tackle, your head is forced beyond this range of movement it places strain on the neck muscles and tendons.
- Competitive sport can have quite an unbalancing effect on the body. Take racket sports for example. The same arm is used to hit thousands of shots over and over again. One side of the body is placed under different types and levels of stress compared to the other. The same is true for sports like soccer and Australian rules football where one kicking foot usually predominates. A flexibility training program can help to correct these disparities preventing chronic, over-use injury.
Sports Specific
Specific sports need specific approaches to training. Exercises and routines designed with your sport in mind will improve your overall performance.
Rehabilitation
- Do you have a particular condition or injury that impacts on your daily living? Injury specific programs are designed by your Personal Trainer for your rehabilitation.
- Do you currently have or previously had an injury and/or illness and now looking to start or get back into exercising?

- Blackwood Fitness works with your treating physio, chiro or osteo. After consultation with your treating practitioner, Blackwood Fitness will identify exercises for you that will continue to strengthen the injured area and will ensure correct technique.
- If you are currently receiving treatment, the additional training sessions will complement this and aid in your recovery. Note that a Rehab Trainer does not replace treatment from a physio, chiro or osteo and if you have received an injury it is important that you seek immediate treatment.
- Blackwood Fitness is an accredited 'Rehab Trainer' and we have the knowledge, skills and experience, specialising in back, shoulder and knee rehabilitation.
